The interior of Art Intelligence Global (AIG) Hong Kong headquarters is a museum-standard gallery-office space nestled in the industrial buildings-turned-arts hub of Wong Chuk Hang in Hong Kong. The project is a physical response to a series of needs outlined by the founders of AIG, Yuki Terase, former Head of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s in Asia, and Amy Cappellazzo, former Chairman of the Fine Art Division at Sotheby’s, to create a versatile space capable of hosting various functions and sustaining museum-standard exhibitions.
AIG represents a pioneering approach to international art consultancy, boasting dual headquarters in Hong Kong and New York. To reflect the vision of its founders for the future of art consultancy, the interior design harnesses the attributes of the industrial area, featuring a 4.7-meter-high ceiling, white walls, exposed concrete finishes, as well as a 6-by-4-meter-tall sliding wall that traverses from west to east and rotates 360 degrees, allowing for varied programmatic setups within the 10-meter by 10-meter exhibition space. The result is a multifunctional environment that includes offices, libraries, discreet meeting rooms, a museum-standard exhibition space, secured art storage facilities, and spaces for events and banquets.
The design respectfully honored the site’s industrial allure. Original concrete beams and walls were thoughtfully revealed, creating a dynamic interplay between refinement and informality. Additionally, mechanical ducting for ventilation and air conditioning was carefully integrated into thickened walls and ceilings, maintaining a visually uncluttered display environment. This design approach resulted in an exposed ceiling slab, allowing museum-quality light fixtures to level effortlessly with the deep concrete beams, effectively utilizing the full height of the space.
