This project is a renovation of an existing Federal Style home located in Bellport Long Island, a block from the beach. There is not one surface that is not being restored to its original Federal style flavor. The home is sited on a flat piece of property and is a corner lot with a privet hedge surrounding the perimeter of the landscape. The house was renovated and a porch addition was added. The main views of the house are from the side where the porch was added. In the renovation the walls were opened up to allow the house to breathe and take in the views of the side yard which has now been landscaped with formal French gardens and a pool. The interiors of the house was a collaboration between the designer / owner, Harold Streitman and FZAD. Harold developed the finishes and the interesting combination of colors and textures. FZAD created the custom cabinetry for the kitchen cabinets and the details that are seen throughout the house. Mr. Streitman and Mr. Van Campenhout went on buying trips to Europe to select some of the very special pieces in the house that created the ambiance of the project. The house creates a sense of excitement. From the entrance to the property one approaches the building thinking that the building is a wonderful old historic project with formal gardens. However, once this formalism is assumed one enters the home and a world of surprises are created that become a “discussion” between this apparent wrapper of formalism and re-freshing interiors of new finishes and natural materials. FZAD created the architecture, and working with the designer and owner, Harold Streitman created the interior design. FZAD was also the project manager. Furnishings are by Harold Streitman.
