San Marcos Athletic Stadium
The Estadio’s prominent position with views out to the mountains, over the surrounding campus, and to the nearby Huaca have inspired the architectural response of “a journey through the Lima landscape".
The site of San Marcos encompasses an area of 12.4 hectares. Part of the existing sports park was converted to meet the sports infrastructure requirements to host the PanAmerican and ParaPanAmerican Games in 2019. Pattern designed the renovation of the San Marcos Athletic Stadium as part of Lima2019’s cluster of three buildings at Callao and San Marcos. The fast-track renovations took 12 months to design and construct.
Pattern’s renovation included upgrades to comply with IAAF (International Athletics Federation) standards; adding: a roof; 22,000 flip-up seats; redesigning the external landscaping and renovation of the entire building. Upgrades were made to comply with current accessibility and building regulations in Peru. New toilets, changing rooms and hospitality and broadcasting facilities have modernised the venue.
Callao Coliseo Miguel Grau
The lively streets of Callao and the vibrant spirit of the Chalacos, the people of Callao, are the inspirations for the improvements to the building that will continue to be used by elite competitors and the local community.
The Callao Coliseo was delivered as part of Lima2019’s cluster of buildings that also includes the Polideportivo on the Villa Deportiva Regional de Callao (VDC), and the Estadio de Universidad San Marcos, for the PanAmerican and ParaPanAmerican Games in 2019. The existing Coliseo Miguel Grau was built in 1996. The fast-track renovations took 12 months to design and construct. The Coliseo encompasses an area of 2.2 hectares.
Pattern’s renovation included replacing the roof, the external landscaping, and redecoration of the entire building. Upgrades were made to comply with current accessibility, seismic and building regulations in Peru. 2400 individual flip-up seats were installed. New toilets, changing rooms and hospitality have modernised the venue which will host the PanAm Games boxing, wrestling and goal-ball events. In legacy, the venue will host multi-sports courts.
Callao Multi-Sports Arena
The inspiration for the Polideportivo is based on Callao’s rich nautical heritage and identity. It embodies the citizens’ strong connection to the sea.
Callao is a vibrant neighbourhood proud of its maritime heritage and connection to the water. Pattern designed the new Polideportivo (Multi-Sports Arena) as part of Lima2019’s cluster of three buildings at Callao and San Marcos for the PanAmerican and ParaPanAmerican Games in 2019. The Polideportivo encompasses an area of 3.2 hectares.
