MLA+ was commissioned to re-design this exceptional project in Chengdu. During the design phase, the project was sold on to a new developer who has different objectives than developed for the initial project. Together with this new client, MLA+ developed a façade concept that met their brand profile and the changed mix of uses.
Instead of realizing two perfectly identical towers, the concept proposed makes them ‘uneven twins’. They are similar but not entirely. This is achieved by a steel glass façade with two extra-large Chinese patterns that relate to each other but will appear different enough to give each tower its own identity. The base and especially the top of the two towers make them a unified project. The entrance plaza is surrounded by a community garden with lush green a swimming pool. The tops are formed by a public restaurant and club in one building and the fitness and community facilities in the other. Both feature an outdoor terrace.
For the interiors the client commissioned Armani with whom MLA+ will be working on delivering a coherent result.
