Dining pavilion for The Design Industries
Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) annual fundraiser 2006 and 2007. Installation
that composes physical structure, finishes, furniture, and light into coherent
expressions of elegance and show off dedication to cutting-edge technologies,
processes, and ideas In 2005, SOM used a new acrylic polymer material to create
a seamless, organically-curved space. The follow year’s angular design studied
how an interior environment could be distorted through a “genetic” process and
still satisfy functional and acoustic requirements. In 2007, luminous
partitions were created out of laser-cut metal screens with lyrical patterns
derived from traditional Middle Eastern geometries.
