A
CABINET SHOP FOR THE GAÎTE LYRIQUE INSPIRED BY PARISIAN BOUQUINISTES
The
Gaîte Lyrique is an historic theater formerly hosting operettas and
now renewed by architect Manuelle Gautrand as a cultural center
dedicated to digital arts and contemporary music.
The
shop of the Gaîte Lyrique was previously placed on the outside of
the building and accessible only from the street.
In
the aim of redeveloping the 1st
floor to which one can access by two majestic historical stone
staircases, it has been decided to reintroduce the shop within the
walls of the Gaîte Lyrique, at the end of the visitors's tour in
relation to the resource center, the video games area and the new
media studio that the FREAKS has also redrawn.
The
challenge therefore was to evolve the classic boutique into an
autartik cabinet-shop, since the new location is an open space, which
can not be closed apart. The shop is then both a display of
presentation and a secured storage.
The
project is inspired by old style Parisian booksellers (bouquinistes)
along the Seine river that unfold in the morning and fold back in the
evening: a 15 meter long cabinet with 15 drawers of storage that
offers a free display of nearly 8 meters that can be closed at night
thanks to a gold cage system and two large exhibition showcases
dedicated to more valuable products.
The
shop appears to the visitors as a white and gold vessel, enlightened
from the inside, floating on a forest of fine and random legs.
