Hamline’s new University Center looks both inward and outward, creating a prominent and welcoming face where the urban campus meets the city of St. Paul. The building is a community crossroads for the University with its large commuter population. With casual dining facilities, roof terraces, flexible event space, and student organization offices, the Center will be a campus landmark and destination, providing “living room” spaces for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty alike. Through flexible programming and synergies between program elements, the Center will adapt easily as the University grows and needs change. The use of sustainable design and operational strategies, including energy modeling and collaboration with local energy providers, creates an environmentally responsible building that enhances the Hamline campus and supports the University’s larger educational mission.
