el dorado is currently working with a team of developers to design a master plan for the Highlander neighborhood of North Omaha, Nebraska. The plan is comprised of a variety of housing strategies including mixed use rentals, live work units, and home ownership opportunities with an emphasis on community amenities for the development, anchored by EARTH components: Education, Art, Recreation, Technology, and Health. Our design focuses on the intersection of 30th Street and Patrick Avenue, where an open courtyard engages a large green space across 30th Street and creates opportunities for residents and visitors to interact. The design brings resources to the community and connects individuals walking to school, shooting hoops, checking out a book at the library, purchasing a painting from a resident artist, taking a yoga class, business class or computer class, or purchasing freshly grown foods from the market or cafe. The series of structures also help create programmable outdoor spaces including terraces for urban agriculture, open market courtyards, playgrounds, and a community swimming pool.
