Bernardo designed the key elements of the lobby for The Iron Wood Hotel in Tacloban. He used the old wooden foundation of the destroyed building by Typhoon Haiyan, where the hotel now stands, as his material of choice. He believes in up-cycling wood to create unique designs, as we see in the chandelier. The hanging slabs used to hold the old building together, now the warm and cozy quality light of the chandelier illuminates the lobby. The reception desk is made out of 5 wooden post which remain intact. These post were covered in concrete as the main support of the old building, now they greet the Iron Wood hotel guest as they enter.
