The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts serves a dual mission as an art museum and art education center for a dynamic region of southwestern Michigan. ABA expanded and renovated this Modernist museum, adding 30,000 sf to the existing building. The design preserved the original International Style aesthetics, and introduced new public spaces, galleries, studios, administrative space, and facilities for art preparation and collections care. The new wing also includes a community auditorium with flexible technology for presentations, lectures, banquets, and regular symphony rehearsals.
