A Sequel After 100 Years
In the fall of 1924, Xu Zhimo answered Tagore's query about the Chinese name of Cigar with his poet's talent and profound meaning, giving the cigar a Chinese name with both form and meaning, which is used to this day.
One hundred years later, the design story of “LEAF” is like a sequel to that legendary tale. It unfolds slowly, like the rhythm of a long poem, presenting the form and meaning of the cigar delicately in the space. Here, rhythm and order intertwine into a harmonious movement, releasing the unique charm and power of the space, allowing one to feel the precipitation of time and modernity in every detail.
Deep Sense of Time and Space
"LEAF" Cigar bar is located in Sihai City, Panyu District, Guangzhou, where people flow in the day and toast at night. The open and mysterious semi-curved entrance, like a portal to the unknown, guides visitors in the direction of progress and inspires their curiosity about the deep space. The smoke installation moves in the changes of light and shadow, outlining the deep sense of time and space in the curved semi-enclosed space.
In this meticulously sculpted space, curved and linear elements are skillfully interwoven to convey the contrast between simplicity and richness, the harmony between the whole and the details, as well as the interweaving of pulsation and tranquility. The synergy of these design elements gives the space a rhythmic vitality, as if the space itself is breathing, bringing visitors an immersive experience that is both dynamic and serene.
Order and Sense of Ritual
The design of the space is inspired by the elegant gesture of cigar smoke. The carefully planned curved ceiling structure and the application of bronzed metal, like clouds, rise and fall, gradually unveiling the story interpretation of the drama. The curved metal bars are superimposed on each other, and the array of layers brings a sense of ceremony with the order, showing the openness and inclusiveness of the bar. The white space of the lower level leaves a wide space for the exploration of possibilities.
The urban character and natural emotions are organically combined in this field, and the floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall brings the external scenery into the interior, while covering up the hustle and bustle of the city, leaving only pure relaxation and quiet. We try to create a visual effect that accentuates the overall tone and atmosphere of the space, helping the viewer to better experience the mood that this blurred and full of tension space wants to convey.
Transparency and Openness
The smooth and clear lines of the bar and its back wall subtly define the inward-facing serving area and the outward-facing social space. The mirrored metal wine racks and delicate micro-cement walls continue the curvilinear design language, complemented by lighting accents that together create a layered visual picture. The soft amber light and colorful bottles of wine create a jazzy and cozy atmosphere.
The VIP area is an exclusive space with expansive views and privacy, subtly striking a balance between transparency and openness. Delicate wood finish and rough wall texture form a clever balance, the design process refers to the cigar from production to mellow the whole process, and its essence is cleverly integrated into every detail.
The bronze color scheme conveys a sense of mystery and sophistication to the space. The light and shadow in the gallery space permeate the cracks of the structure, building an experience that transcends time and space. Brown and ochre, water and mist, fermentation and mellowing, tradition and modernity, we draw inspiration from the speakeasies of the 1920s, and through a series of experiments, we create a scene of evocative storytelling.
New Journey
Characters as a touch of transparent fantasy dream, the scene is a hazy dark surge under the night. When the line of sight wanders to the bar emitting dense light, the wood of the old and the texture of the metal, cozy wrapped around people's emotions and thoughts, at this moment the world outside the space, although noisy and noisy, but also completely unaware of it. The language of space is a story line constructed with precision, recording and framing every second whisper of people and space in silence.
