Meishan is a city with a history of 1,500 years. It is also the hometown of the poet Su Dongpo in the Song Dynasty. It is known as the city of poetry and books for thousands of years. Meishan Rong Media Center, as the city’s cultural living room, will be completed in 2024. It contains three important cultural facilities: cultural center, library and Meishan TV station.
The building was chosen on a sloping land with a height difference of 19 meters. The building was divided into parts, followed the mountain's situation, and overlaid with books, cleverly digesting the height difference of the site and echoing the urban intention of Meishan as a city of poetry and books.
The building volumes are layered on top of each other, abstractly reproducing the way poems and books are stacked, and recreating the cultural center of thousands of years of poetry and books.
Paying attention to the relationship between architecture and the city, the staggered volumes form a cultural deck overlooking the city from different angles.
The horizontally floating building volume is superimposed with a layer of perforated panels on the outside of the glass curtain wall to form a double skin, superimposing images and becoming a screen building.
The layers of the building are set back to form a three-dimensional urban garden, reflecting the ecological concept.
The interior of the building is rich in space and the design of the space gives people unexpected surprises. The atrium of the cultural center, light and thousand-year cultural dialogue. A cultural exhibition hall is set up on the top floor of the cultural center, forming a cultural space for imagining the future. The top floor of the library is carefully designed with a mountain of books and a sea of books, forming a space for free reading. The atrium of the TV station is like multiple cultural windows, showing the personality and collaboration of each department. The studio hall and foyer are the busiest places in Meishan at night.
