A communications strategy firm with a drove of Fortune 500 clients including Coca-Cola and Microsoft, Methodologie sought to design their new office space to promote creativity and collaboration. Flexibility—including the ability to turn a functional working area into an impromptu social gathering space—also ranked high on Methodologie’s wish list.
The project team reinforced Methodologie’s goal of establishing an egalitarian, shared environment by creating an open space that mingles agency edge with the sophistication of a gallery. Configuring the office to allow access to daylight and views for all employees, an adaptable spine was built as the central skeleton from which desks stem; promoting transparency and teamwork, the open desks also feature a ‘music stand’ where individuals can customize their space or share materials by posting ephemera on a magnetic board. Striving for sustainability, the project team reused—and reinvented—60% of the office’s existing furniture.
Opening up the ceiling to expose its structural elements created height, volume and room for bouncing ideas around. A long steel table, running parallel to the window-wall of the courtyard, offers another shared space for collaboration and sharing inspiration. Adjacent to the steel table are seating areas of various heights and styles, from lounge chairs to bar-height stools, all encouraging community and adding to the office’s multifaceted, unrestrained vibe.
