The new Nemocnica Bory Hospital in Bratislava, designed for Penta Hospitals International, is set to be one of the most efficient hospitals in Europe. With a size of 43,000 m², the hospital boasts 400 beds and 14 hypermodern operating rooms will be one of the most efficient hospitals in Europe. It is expected to replace some 50 percent of the total number of beds available in Bratislava. This patient-friendly regional hospital brings healthcare in Slovakia to another level. In recognition of its innovative design and impact on healthcare, the hospital recently won First Prize at the Rethinking The Future Awards 2023 in the healthcare/wellness category.
The hospital’s design promotes patient-friendly orientation, with its central boulevard flooded with daylight from the glass facade offering panoramic views. The layout ensures efficient logistics and short walking distances, while automated processes and innovatively organized outpatient clinics enhance operational efficiency. Various healing gardens, patio spaces, and indoor greenery create a comfortable and functional environment for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals. The building is designed with sustainability, flexibility, and future-proof features in mind, making it a model of modern healthcare.
Patients and staff benefit from the healing environment that includes patio gardens and large moss sedum roofs on the lower floors, which bring greenery indoors. The five-storey building is designed to maximize the use of daylight, ensuring a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The central footbridge boulevard, located in front of the hospital, connects the main entrance to the hospital's key areas. The boulevard is spacious and inviting, offering views of the surrounding patio gardens, making it easier for visitors and patients to find their way through the hospital with minimal stress.
The Nemocnica Bory Hospital not only provides the best healthcare but also generates job opportunities in Slovakia. As the first modern hospital in Bratislava, it attracts top medical professionals to contribute to their country’s healthcare sector. The hospital's construction also enhances the surrounding infrastructure in the area.
The hospital was designed by Dutch Health Architects (DHA), a joint venture between EGM architects and Gortemaker Algra Feenstra, based on the Next Generation Hospital concept. DHA’s expertise in efficiently organizing hospital processes while maintaining high levels of service and comfort led to their selection. Their successful design for the Michalovce hospital in eastern Slovakia, completed in 2017 for the same client, Penta, was a key factor in the selection. The Nemocnica Bory Hospital opened in 2023.
