The design’s purpose was first accommodating the owner’s remains and testament for a period of ten years. The designed “tomb” was to be opened after the ten years and the testament to be read by the owner’s family. In the last will, the owner expressed his wish of his tomb being transformed into an object that would be of use to people.
Given the owner’s history in aviation, I decided to place the tomb in the place that he dedicated his life for, the air. The tomb was redesigned with the purpose of transformation into an aerial platform that ‘rises’ the definition of observation to another level.
With a lightweight fiberglass frame and ETFE helium filled cushions, the observation platform lifts high up in the air and provides a 360 view of the surroundings.
