Our project dissolves the boundary between building and park. It molds the existing landscape, extending the park and the public space to the roof of the building, where the visitors can enjoy the unique view of the city and the vicinity. The coffee is located on the roof of the building, where it can be open and can operate even when the rest of the center for art and culture is closed. The design preserves various original communist era elements and characteristics of the existing building, such as the industrial building construction, made with prefabricated concrete components left exposed on the interior, and on the exterior is visible through the new translucent façade. The existing graffities and brick walls are preserved wherever possible, keeping the aesthetic and the memory of the history of the building. Thus the project demonstrates sophisticated integration of the old and new, and serves as an innovative example for preservation of the communist era buildings, where the cultural heritage and memory is deeply integrated into the new building. The design of the interior will be highly adaptable. The new building will include 2 performing spaces(280-,100-people) each of which will offer several different stage audience configurations. The exhibition spaces will be also very flexible, utilizing hinged rotating white walls, which will allow for fast transformation of the exhibition spaces. In the event that even larger gallery is needed, the hinged panel scan be moved to the side the gallery opening larger exhibition space. If desired, roll-down shutter doors open the large performing space to the south towards the park, where an outdoor seating are located and can be used as an outdoor performing space.
