The proposal of the my design for the Pop-up Chapel consists of simply repeated elements (Bamboo & Rope) in order to create a structurally cohesive system which creates a warm gathering gesture in form, in order to bring together two people on this special occasion, of legalization of same sex marriages within New York City. Materiality plays a crucial role in the fruition of this design, the rope literally ties knots around the bamboo creating a beautiful pattern or "Soft Tessellation" while keeping together the fluidity of form in the given 8'x8' site constraint. The thoughts behind this design were to create a space in which the user feels a sense of privacy, while showcasing this historic event both in life and history to people passing by, restoring the humility of what it truly means to dedicate ones life to another.
