New Orleans has long been dependent on its majestic river. As the city continues the arduous process of rebuilding its damaged neighborhoods – to which outmost priority must remain – there is also a need for a strategic, entrepreneurial, optimistic look ahead. The Reinventing the Crescent Development Plan addresses such questions, and proposes a key role for a six-mile stretch along the East Bank of the Mississippi River. From Jackson Avenue upriver to the former Holy Cross school site just down river of the mouth of the Industrial Canal, this plan envisions an urban, active, inhabited, beautiful river crescent for the Crescent City’s present, and future citizens to enjoy. The plan has been estimated to stimulate $3.2 billion dollars in total investment and generate 24,000 permanent jobs in the city by 2024.“I think this is the most exciting project the city has seen in decades, maybe in its history.”-Arnie Fielkow,New Orleans City Council President
