Surrounded by forests, near the historic part of Vilnius – Antakalnis, a two-story dwelling house with a base has been designed in a unique architectural shape.
Live, constantly changing, active in its biology, blue in spring, green in summer, covered with yellow leaves in autumn, and frosty and snow white in winter. Such adjectives can be used for describing the slope in Rudens Street, Vilnius, with a residential house of a bold architecture. The plot is unique because it is further away from the street and borders the pine forest. The relief with heavy slopes was used to create the architectural concept of the house. The plot consists of two levels, the first was used for access roads, a playground, a basement floor with a garage, technical facilities, and an entrance. The higher part of the plot is for recreation.
Customers planning their not the first home came to the architect’s office and ensured an interesting and unpredictable creative process. In collaboration with future home owners, an exclusive product has been created.
The cylinder shape was not accidentally chosen as a main composition element. Such solution was a reflection on the changing environment. The cylinder have no specific direction, thus opening up all panoramas around. Architects suggest seeing the building as a piece of art – an expressive sculpture with a multitude of composite elements causing a variety of associations. The main cylindrical volume is surrounded like an envelope with rotating Saturn rings that slice up the entire volume. The slices create integrity throughout the structure. At the same time, the tension which occurs between the different directions of the rings, is intriguing. This way, the roof slopes and a window across the entire building, dividing the cylinder into two separated parts, are formed. Viewed from a further perspective, the layout of the walls and windows of the house can be compared to the abstract painting work where brushes emerge in the background of white canvas. Some nerve in the façade composition is brought by highlighted the rectangular and square-shaped entrances, contrasting with the cylindrical volume and other organic elements. From the access side, a characteristic part – a square window on the second floor of the house – appears above the window on the visible part of the cylinder. The facades are complemented by this interesting relationship between the line and the dot on top. To enjoy the changing view of the slope, the terrace linked with the main living quarters is designed in the upper part of the plot.
On the base floor, from the main entrance will be led to the hall with expressive staircase decorated with openwork handrails. These stairs is the main communication artery between the different floors of the house.
The architecture of the building matches the delicate and elegant interior. It uses light, neutral colours. On the other hand, immediately after entering the house, you will notice a bright space accent – dark wood flooring contrasting with pastel colours of furniture. A lot of velure was used in the furniture thus creating the feeling of aesthetic, tasteful and contemporary luxury. All spaces are not overloaded with details. The only colourful interior accents you might notice are brightly coloured paintings decorating the spaces of the lounge and the rooms, a legacy from the previous home of the owners.
The unique interior space is formed on the top floor, where the main bedroom is at separated with a glass partition from the common sauna room and bathroom. Both the sauna and the bedroom have a direct visual connection with the surrounding pine forest, while terraces were designed for the roof slope and in part of the volume.
