Scholingsboulevard Enschede is a large-scale education complex, accommodating 2600 students on two highly visible locations south of the Enschede city centre. The three new structures house large vocational training departments in the fields of Health care, Consumption, Catering and Tourism, Graphic Design, ICT and Sports, Service and Security and Technique and Economics. The design also includes sports facilities, a restaurant and an auditorium. The architecture was adapted to the school’s innovative curricular vision, using elements such as cone shaped structures.
The buildings are light and open and have a highly flexible internal lay-out, which can be adapted to different teaching styles and activities. Characteristic to both locations are the bowl shaped structures, situated on the storey high base, in which the entrance and the workshops are located. Patios have been incorporated into the design to create several outdoor spaces and to make optimal use of daylight. The roof of this base offers a communal school yard with large plastic grass structures.
