RF House is a single-family home located in the Hollywood Hills. The project sits on a 27,000 square foot hillside lot at the end of a cul-de-sac. The house is perched on a hill and enjoys stunning views of the city below. A series of interconnected volumes and planes form the seamless indoor/outdoor living spaces that define the residence.
From the street, the house presents itself as two abstract volumes floating over a series of landscape walls. These volumes are separated by entry steps that lead up to a pair of colossal entry doors clad in Oak. Upon entering the house, expansive views of Los Angeles are revealed along with an open living, kitchen, dining space with 14-foot tall ceilings. Fifty-five feet of sliding glass doors pocket away, creating a seamless connection to an outdoor terrace and infinity edge pool.
The bedroom wing extends the length of the property providing privacy from the upslope neighbors, culminating with the master suite cantilevering over the hillside. A large interior courtyard and stair connects the main living level with a full daylit basement, washing the lower level in natural light.
The material palette was carefully crafted. Textured stone panels contrast with the smooth white plaster, both flowing from interior to exterior, blurring the distinction between the two. The warm minimal material palette combined with precise detailing create a luxurious and refined modern home.
