Styles Street House
The brief called for a light filled series of spaces and the display of a large collection of books and art works. The house manages to opens itself in multiple directions allowing views, light and ventilation despite the tight inner suburban site conditions. Strong fields of colours are strategically placed to augment the internal spatial experience. These colours juxtapose or complement framed vistas of surrounding landscape, existing building fabric, blue sky and other interior spaces, transforming the interior environments throughout the day. Daily rituals are celebrated by the capturing of sunlight into those spaces associated.The study loft incorporates a ‘natural air conditioner’ above the bookshelves - a funnel shaped glass louvre window that captures and compresses the cooling north easterly wind on a hot Sydney day for low-carbon comfort.
