Located in the park of the iconic Drummondville library, the project involves creating an urban design that incorporates various types of furniture for library users and local residents.
Inspired by the rounded shapes in the library’s architecture, the use of circles echoes this design language and creates unique and inclusive furnishings. A central ring with a diameter of 21 feet connects all the elements of the project. This ring integrates several features: a linear table, planting beds, a stage, play benches of varying heights, and spaces for individuals with reduced mobility. The white concrete ribbon rises from the ground, taking the form of waves that invite people to sit.
The furniture is topped with round pergolas made of white-painted galvanized steel. Another pergola, located on the edge, provides swings. In an inner courtyard of the library, child-height benches are set up for the library’s mediation activities. To bring the innovative shapes of this project to life, effective collaboration among stakeholders and precise execution were essential.
