In the open and rolling landscape of Celadna, in the region of Moravia (Frydek-Mistek) not far from the Slovak-Polish borders, a successful entrepreneur gave us a brief, which included a recreational villa for relaxing, entertaining and enjoying weekends and holidays with family and friends. The house is basically in the middle of a golf course site, nestled between groups of existing large trees. The living concept was formed in a subtle, open 120 degree angle, framing East-West views. Celadna Villa captures private exterior spaces in its hyper-roof, and, at certain moments ‘disappears’ on the horizon with its darker, shadow aesthetics. The architectural intention was to accommodate the program in a horizontal form, with constant reference to the scenic views, using the simplicity of metal and wood crafted buildings.
The project has two main components – the villa, with accommodations, dining and entertaining; and, the second adjacent wing has the spa and swimming pool. The villa is made from spruce wood laminated beams and columns, with wood ‘bio-panel’ technology. The facades are a combination of aluminium frames, ALUCOBOND panels, spruce wood and finish concrete. The same lighter, bleached wood is used throughout the interiors, giving the villa a striking contrast with its anthracite, metal skin.
