Design and build project of minimal shelter in urban gardens requires dealing with several limiting conditions: client's wishes, tiny scale, limited costs and the context of the surrounding area. It assumes touching of the space carefully and leaving a series of dead ends. In a joint work with our friends – artists we were looking for a design, which can fit naturally and obviously into a selected place. The result of working together is all the more pleasing.
We have been looking for the most effective solution in a number of variants of the required program layout. On the ground floor of the cottage there is a living room, sauna and small pantry along the north wall. On the upper floor there is a gallery overlooking the garden and two children's cabin above the facilities. The inner space is open up to the full height of the cottage to highlight artistic glass walls from the recycled windows patchwork. Lookout gallery is connected to the southern veranda above the covered porch of the cottage.
The final appearance of the cottage was created by cooperation of architects and artists - clients. As the architects we have prepared a basic "box" as a rational construction matrix made in the 2´´ by 4´´ construction system. We contributed to the project by general location, shape, layout, constructional and technical solutions. The completion of the windows, doors and interior from the found "readymades" by Jiří and Míša Černický gives the joint work a unique artistic overlap and atmosphere. The tiny cottage in the garden colony is actually a contemporary late-modern interpretation of the Gesamtkunstwerk phenomenon. It is the result of a unique combination of architecture and fine art, without which the completion of the work would not have been possible.
